The Little Railroad Queen

August Blom, 1912, 40 min
A frivolous count disposes of his unwanted, newborn child in a first-class train compartment bound for Moscow. The train staff takes care of little Eva, but decide to send her to an orphanage so that she can have a formal education. At 18 years old, Eva must find a guardian before she’s thrown out onto the street. In a wicked twist of fate, Eva’s father, Count Iwan, seems unwittingly interested in the young beauty. Hopefully they realise their familiarly resemblances before it’s too late.

The film has no intertitles. Read the plot in the cinema programme. Please be aware of the poor quality of the film, as it is a copy preserved on paper film print.

Valdemar Psilander plays the role of Count Iwan Groblewski, Eva’s father. Psilander’s acting career took off around 1910 and he quickly became world famous with 83 films recorded over six years. Nordisk Films Kompagni marketed Psilander as one of the first global stars in film history and director Ole Olsen personally made sure to spread false rumours about the jealous ex-lovers’ assassination attempts on Psilander’s life. In 1917, he was found dead in his hotel room at the age of 32. Read more about Psilander in our theme ‘The Whole World’s Valdemar’ here on the site.
