His Innocent Dupe

Holger-Madsen, 1916, 39 min
The family doctor Harmodi possesses hypnotic powers and has secretly taken control of Countess Judith’s mind. Precious jewellery has been going missing in the area lately, and Count Maximilian Coltenberg summons Detective Jurian Fox to prevent a theft of his jewels. Unfortunately, no measures can prevent an inside job, as the hypnotised countess has her own key to the safe. Although Detective Fox suspects the sinister Dr. Harmodi, he must locate hard evidence.

The film has English intertitles with Danish subtitles. Note that the film contains language and use of make-up that, while widespread in the silent film period, strikes us as offensive today.

The film is part of a genre of crime and detective films that are hugely popular in the early 1910s. The films focus a lot on suspense elements, such as kidnappings, car chases, poisonings, and the like.
