Novelist-filmmaker Henrik Stangerup transplanted a classical Danish satirical comedy to the 17th century Portugese-speaking Brazil, but retained Ludvig Holberg's original story about the university student who returns to his native village to announce that the earth is round and to prove sundry inanities with half-cocked scientific wisdom. A mainly Brazilian cast was given free commedia dell'arte rein.
